Seeing With Your Heart - Richmond's Story

Richmond was abandoned in NYC and taken in by his owner’s neighbor, who thought that the owner would return for him but he never did. She kept him for 6 months, trying to find the owner and not wanting to surrender Richmond to a city shelter because he was blind. Instead, she contacted LRRCT and asked for help in placing him. Richmond was seen by a veterinary ophthalmologist and diagnosed with an inherited form of blindness, PRA which is not operable because retinal function was destroyed. Richmond was fostered on LI by Mary Massarro and her family and their chocolate lab Snickers. He became such a part of their family that they adopted him.
